Wet Rooms

The latest trend in bathroom design is a wet room. With today´s hectic lifestyles many of us are looking for the opportunity to relax and unwind in the comfort of our own homes, perhaps to pressed for time to get away for a luxury break.

Investing in a wet room when restyling your bathroom will make it into your own private relaxation experience adding real value to your home.

The wet room is an open shower area which flows into the rest of the room, thus making them suitable for small or large rooms, giving an illusion of space through there open plan nature.

Wet rooms look stunning; however, it is imperative they are fitted correctly to ensure they are fully watertight. Due to the work involved this really is not a job for the DIY enthusiast.

Considerations when deciding on a Wet Room:

  • The whole room needs to be watertight; this is called tanking. A fully qualified professional should carry this out.
  • High quality ceramic/carbon seal will ensure a longer life and a leak free installation.
  • The room must have enough structural support to take the weight of all the materials.
  • Ventilation is important to allow the room to dry out; underfloor heating is an option worth considering.
  • Think about floor coverings, maybe a non-slip option is best.
  • The floor will need to be raised about 50mm to accommodate waste fittings and allow for a slope towards the waste outlet.
  • A shower screen will finish of the installation and stop all the bathroom fittings being sprayed with water.

If upon reflection this seems complicated and expensive a simpler option would be a walk in shower or a fully enclosed shower cubicle.
